Newbie Question: Recommend way to add agent-based services

hello,

I am needing some help with adding agent-based services via Icinga Director. With standard Icinga config files this would be done like:

apply Service "procs" {
  import "generic-service"

  check_command = "procs"

  assign where host.name == NodeName
}

apply Service "swap" {
  import "generic-service"

  check_command = "swap"

  assign where host.name == NodeName
}

apply Service "users" {
  import "generic-service"

  check_command = "users"

  assign where host.name == NodeName
}

But how is the recommended way with Icinga Director?

This gives you some idea for a service set, a host template, apply rules …

This is intended for a fresh without any templates.
Use at your own risk, it might overwrite custom templates if the names are the same.

Director Kickstarter has to run once before fetching itl-commands from icinga2.

For agents, there is more work to do.

  • You need a service-template that has “Run on agent”=> Yes
  • You need a host-template that has “Icinga2 Agent” => Yes
  • You can’t add a service or service-template with “Run on agent”=> Yes to a host or host-template with “Icinga2 Agent” => No
  • the executable commadn needs to be present on the agent

Apart from that a Icinga Training might help

I use the tags provided by the @linuxfabrik monitoring-plugins and my own custom tags.

For example:
the apply rule on the service-set:

The fields need to be added to the basic host template or they will not show up for you.
