Installing Icinga - Questions

Hi Everyone,
I am totally new to icinga. We are thinking of deploying it in our environment. We are totally a windows shop. I have been reading some documentation. As i understand Icinga can be installed on a windows server (Icinga Management Console - Icinga for Windows).
I have also watched a presentation on youtube (Icinga for Windows v1.6.0 - Preview and Q&A - YouTube).
Question is once i everything is configured. How do i install agent on my host servers which i want to monitor ? All the articles on google are pretty old. Just want to make sure i am following the right thing. Please help. Thanks

Hi Everyone,

If you want to use Icinga, that will change.

I have been reading some documentation. As i understand Icinga can be
installed on a windows server

Correct, but not as a master (or satellite).

https://icinga.com/docs/icinga-2/latest/doc/06-distributed-monitoring/
#master-setup

“Note: Windows is not supported for a master node setup.”

Therefore you will need to have at least one Linux machine in your network to
act as the Icinga Master. If you want to use Satellites, these need to be
Linux systems too.

Any of these can be VMs if that makes life easier for you.

Question is once i everything is configured. How do i install agent on my
host servers which i want to monitor ?

Simple - Icinga2 is Icinga2 - there is no difference between what needs
installing for a Master, a Satellite or an Agent - it’s just the configuration
which differs.

Welcome to the Linux world
