As a team, we want to better understand the spaces where sysadmins and IT professionals discover, discuss, and learn about new tools.
- What platforms do you use to follow the latest topics in your work?
- Where do you usually discover new tools or projects worth exploring?
This isn’t about dropping ads into your feeds. (Okay, admittedly, we did do some Reddit ads before, but we’d like to keep it light). Instead, we want to understand where conversations are already happening and how we can join them in a way that’s useful. This could mean answering questions, sharing knowledge, or just being part of the discussion.
Of course, this community is already a big part of that, but we’d also love to know what other spaces you’re active in. I feel like everyone here would probably also appreciate fresh faces joining the community. More people active in the Icinga space means more people roaming the forum as well - which leads to more questions, (hopefully) more answers, and knowledge shared.
Most of us on the Icinga team are developers. Many of you, though, are sysadmins and practitioners, with a much better sense of where the real conversations take place. That’s looking to you for the insider knowledge. And since you are the group of people we are looking for, it would help us a lot if you could use the spaces you’re part of to spread the word about Icinga.
Someone authentically talking about Icinga is worth at least as much, if not a lot more, than any of our marketing ever could be.
We’ve started looking into Reddit as one possible channel, with communities like:
- r/sysadmin
- r/devops
- r/selfhosted
- r/linuxadmin
- and of course our own reddit community we help moderate over at r/icinga
That’s just our first thought. Do you agree that Reddit is a good space to explore? Are there other places, maybe even some hidden gems, that you think we should be paying attention to?
We’d also love to hear what kind of content you’d like to see more (or less) of from us. Should we focus on tutorials, troubleshooting tips, release news, behind-the-scenes insights - or something else entirely?
Most importantly, how do you think we can direct our efforts in a way that actually makes sense for you and the broader community?
