Hardware and software requirements for installing Icinga

Hi Everyone

I am very new to Icinga. For the first time I am going to set up icinga. I need to prepare System specifications document. Please help me with the software/hardware specifications/requirements for installing icinga 2 and also for other components which need to be installed along with Icinga.

A lot of suggestions can be made but we need a little more info on the target infrastructure. e.g:

  • How many hosts will be monitored?
  • Operating systems?
  • Hardware , Virtualization and/or containers?
  • Network information, subnets etc
  • Guesstimates on services per host
  • Databases and other important services
  • plus whatever else you consider important

Hi,

A single icinga2 Core and Icingaweb2 instance plus database and graphite/grafana can monitor hundreds of hosts and thousands of services with just 4 vCPU, 8 GB mem and 30GB of disk.

If you can use zones and satellites that spread the load, the numbers can even be lower.

I would suggest checking out the pre-configured vagrant-boxes for setup examples
