Delayed Results as "Unknown"

Hey there,
maybe it is a silly question, but I’m a bit confused. I have a master and a satellite behind a firewall and the satellite can connect to the master. The agents and clients, which are in the same network as the satellite, can be monitored through the satellite. But when the WAN is broken the satellite and the agents and clients are OK with delayed check results. I expected them as Down or Unknown. Is it possible to configure delayed as Unknown? Or how do you handle this problem?

Best regards
Stephan

I’m going to assume that the WAN is between the master and the satellite.

The master is not monitoring the agents / clients - the satellite is.

Therefore the master does no know if the agents / clients are down, it only
knows that the satellite hasn’t told it what the check result is yet.

If you want the master to know if an agent / client is down, the master has to
perform the host alive check.

You might want to have a look at the cluster-zone check
https://icinga.com/docs/icinga-2/latest/doc/19-technical-concepts/
#cluster-zone in order to detect and respond to this break in connectivity.

Antony.

Hi Antony,
sometimes it is too easy. Thanks a lot.
