I’ve completed creating service dependencies to the parent of the host (a router). The result is a DRAMATIC reduction in service down notifications. Icinga2 now behaves the way I expected it to with the default implicit service-to-host dependencies.

If I understand correctly you now have:
- the implicit dependency of a service to the host it belongs to (obviously
)
- a dependency for your hosts to a parent host (router)
- PLUS a dependency for each service of each host to the parent host
I still can only guess the UNREACHABLE “state” of a host does not trigger the implicit dependency to its own services.
Not sure if this is by design or a bug, maybe someone of the Icinga crew knows an answer.
