Upgrade from 2.7.3 to 2.9.3 without updating backend

Hi,

is it possible to upgrade icingaweb2 from 2.7 → 2.9 without ugprading Icinga Backend (2.11) ? And is it also possible to dont use icingadb with 2.9?

• Icinga 2 version used (icinga2 --version) 2.11.3
• PHP version used (php --version) PHP 7.3.29-1~deb10u1
• Server operating system and version Debian 10

Never tried it, but I think that should work.

If you decide to try it be sure to do a DB backup and snapshot the servers

And is it also possible to dont use icingadb with 2.9?

Not sure what you mean by that but:

• icinga web 2 2.8+ is ready for icingadb, but
  – icingadb isn’t released yet (only a RC)
  – Icinga IDO DB is still the default
• if you wanted to use icingadb you would have to update to icinga2 v2.12+
