Maybe it is a silly question, but is it possible to sync from an oracle DB backend?

AFAIK that’s possible when some requirements are fulfilled, like PHP OCI. Since Oracle has some strong licenses on their code, you normally either end up with compiling this extension yourself, e.g. with PECL, or use custom RPMs.
In terms of the configuration, I’m not sure how it exactly works with tnsnames.ora and what not. Just try it, and keep in mind that the resource type only is available once the PHP extension is fully loaded.
