short question. Is Icinga Director 1.8.0 compatible with Icinga 2.11.x? Can i independently upgrade the Director? Currently im using version 1.7.2.

Yes, both components are independent and I know this combination works.
If some change is required in the Director by a change in Icinga 2, it is typically done very fast and will be highlighted in Director’s changelog.
